Don't miss!

Be there to raise a glass of champagne for Kendra Scott's Spring 2008 collection at Eliza Page this Thursday from 6-9 p.m. 20% of sales will be donated to Lifeworks, so now you only feel 80% guilty for a worth-while splurge.

Be sure to check out Jamie Joseph's collection while you're in there, it's the perfect balance of simplistic design and a bold approach.

See you there!

Goodbye SXSW!

The live music invasion has come to an end (thank God)... one more day of this and I would have fallen over sideways. There was major style everywhere and I'm sorry I didn't capture more. I'll be waiting for you all next year!

Hip up the prom scene

Tomorrow is the last day to donate in Austin to the Prom Shop Project™, a great idea in which "volunteers collect, clean and provide formal dresses to students who can't afford to buy them for prom and other special occasions. Over 70% of the girls receiving dresses come from families that live on less than $15,000.00 a year. Through The Prom Shop Project™, young ladies are provided with beautiful dresses, shoes and accessories."

Dig out a dress you're never gonna wear again! You know you have one. Or six. Drop off at any Westbank Dry Cleaning location.

What a wonderful idea to keep the prom dress alive and in good use! Or that formal dress for what's her name's wedding a few years ago....

(Shown above, Carmen Marc Valvo, $3300.)

Fun stuff, good cause

I always love going to Cupidz Clozet. Wonderful gifts, fabulous vintage. I can get carried away there.

They donate all their profits to charity, and tonight is no exception. Drop in for wine & cheese from 6-9 this evening and profits from any purchases made during that time will benefit the Star of Texas Youth Auction.

Tearin' up the Rotunda

ipod dance party rotunda capitol austin
Leave it to Austinites to take their ipod dance party right on into the Capitol.

John Kelso writes:

"So, you know, we pay for the space with our tax dollars, so why not use it for something that's fun?" explained Angel Schatz, 29, the self-proclaimed "perpetuator" of the Civilized Disobedience Dance Party. "That's pretty much it. It's a simple idea."

The dancing went on for about five minutes before one of the two Department of Public Safety troopers on duty in the Rotunda walked into the crowd and told them to take it outside.

Being tossed did not deter the dancers, however. They just conga-lined out the front door and began dancing in front of the Capitol. One guy began flopping around on the ground like a fish.

Ornaments of a different type

Local designer Natalie Tischler of Ornamental Things has recycled jewelry that I fell in love with yesterday at the Cherrywood Art Fair.

So if you're looking for something beautiful, original, eco-friendly and affordable for that stylish friend? Then to that I say... why not try an elephant wearing boxing gloves on a recycled white chain?

(All above, $58.)

American Apparel, Austin

If you haven't yet realized, American Apparel is set to open in the old Factory People location. A grand idea.

YEEEEE-HA! I couldn't think of a better addition to SoCo.

Guess they realized they liked it when they did the pop-up store there for SXSW in 06. Thank God they'll be here. They have such a great sense of humor. And style.

And FYI...there's an AA outlet in Round Rock.

It's not just Oct 25th...

But it's also officially Stephen MacMillan Moser Day in Austin, as declared by our very own Mayor Will Wynn.

So, Happy SMM Day!

It went to a good home

Our favorite guitar, by artist Shanny Lott, went to a wonderful home last night at the Gibson Austin GuitarTown Auction Gala. Gorgeous guitars/art abounded, and the artists were on hand, too. The event raised over half a million dollars for Health Alliance for Austin Musicians, Austin Museum of Art, American Youthworks and Austin Children's Museum.

I couldn't resist taking a pic of Dallas-based artist Johnny Edwards, who airbrushed his suit to match the guitar he did.

Gotta love any man who just goes for it like that!

Lynn & Will Meredith bought another of my favorites, by artist Dianne Sonnenberg.

And let's not forget Evan Voyles' (below) fine neon sculpture, which some lucky bidder got at a fab price!

Birdwatch: Fashion Show at The Domain

"Fall Fabulous" actually got people normally seen downtown to abandon their territory and try something different. Barneys Co-op, Intermix, Calypso, Martin Osa, Louis Vuitton, David Yurman and St. Thomas featured their fall merchandise with live music and a very enthusiastic audience.

My favorite? Martin Osa. I'm surprised too, but their impeccable coordinating of sweaters, scarves, skinny jeans and button-downs left the entire audience eager for cooler temperatures.

Birdwatch: Fall Fling

Fall Fling Style Review:

(Cute girls above all in Catherine Malandrino provided by the new boutique in San Marcos, TX.)

Fall fling 2007 was an absolute success....

The night was beautiful, music pumping, cocktails flowing and a roster of very handsome party guests.

This is an event where everyone puts their best out there and party guests actually mingle, dance, meet new people and leave with a stack of business cards of people you may actually be in touch with again.

It was an honor for Stylebirds to be a part of such a great night! Can't wait till Spring!

The Film Festival has arrived...

You can't miss the extra amount of fashion and attitude currently in Austin. You know... people walking around with a festival badge around their neck that confidently says "I can get into the party"...and their distinguished style doesn't hurt.

(Stylish cameos at a premier party hosted by Interurban Development on October 11th).

This is going to be SO MUCH FUN:

It's here; and I know exactly what shoes I'm wearing...

You don't want to miss Fall Fling this year, tickets are $30 at the door (the cost of a typical round of drinks, so no protests) and proceeds go to Austin Sunshine Camps.

Live music, food, cocktails, a beautiful setting, dressed-up men... need I say more?

A fall dress for Texas

Keep cool and look fallish with this cute number by Sky that we saw at Estilo. I liked it because it was a good price and had that leather detail at the top. ($187.)

This is a great dress. A little bit Zena the Warrior, but it comes across very sexy.

ACL Style

There was a mass amount of people at ACL this past weekend at Zilker Park in ATX and it was a blast! LCD Soundsystem, Arctic Monkeys, Regina Spektor, The Killers, Bjork, my new favorite band Muse, and so many others....

Feeling a little more Woodstock and less Fashion Week, the style was just what you would imagine for three ninety-degree, long-ass days.

The Setting:

Noteworthy Style:

There was also a surprisingly large number of people in swimsuits:
(I would not recommend this look)

And then the inexplainable fashion:

Wow! That's quite a look above! She's probably like Catherine Zeta-Jones' dress.

I notice too that there's a girl rocking a headband. Brave!

A supremely well-executed photo/fashion spread can be found in Tribeza's September issue. Inspired! (By Randal Ford and Lauren Smith Ford.)

(The other fashion spread in that issue? Same old.)

Also, don't forget about the big fashion to-do next week, with Tribeza's boutique crawl and fashion show, featuring lovely local boutiques and complimentary food. Buy tix at tribeza.com ($75/$100/$125). Plus it's at the Blanton.
