RIP, Stylebird we never knew...

This is Elspeth Vaughan Davies Rostow (1917-2007).

I read her obit today in the Statesman. I wish I'd known her. And we should all be so lucky to have such written about us:

"She was 90 years old, although only a select few were aware of her actual age. Until her last hours, she was vibrant, intellectual, involved with life, involved with people, independent, funny, acerbic, and elegant.

She was sometimes perceived as an intimidating woman, regal and erudite. Underneath that image was a woman who was somewhat shy, somewhat reserved, poetic, sensitive and wickedly funny. Her brilliant limericks are too racy to be published in a family newspaper.

She had an exceptional life, marked most of all by a passionate marriage of over half a century to the man she loved.

Her loss is heartbreaking, although the streets of Austin are undeniably safer without her behind the wheel."

She was an amazing woman who also taught at Radcliffe, MIT and UT.

Goodbye Karen

Stylebirds bid a very fond farewell to Karen Kuykendall. She was truly what a Stylebird is made of!

Carla, do you remember when we met her? I was so starstruck that I almost cried!

Are you sure you were with me? I know this sounds terrible, but I have no clue what you're talking about. I've never met her, but I agree with all of your comments. Karen was a beautiful person.

She was full of grace, style, and talent. RIP.

Farewell, Lady Bird

As Stylebirds, we would be remiss not to say a heartfelt good-bye to Lady Bird Johnson. Known for her ladylike and classic style, she will be deeply missed but easily remembered through all the great things she did, especially for us here in Austin.
