My day in that tank

I spent the day in the Yummie Tummie tank, and it went something like this (that's not me above, by the way):
Noon: Wedged- yes, wedged- into it. Put it on with jeans and a tank over it. I admired my side and front views, but was concerned that I would have to keep pulling it down as it would ride up a bit over the top of my jeans. No visible Muffin Top.
1 pm: Feeling thin and sexy, but I must admit, not really comfortable.
2 pm: I admit, I feel thinner. I prance into my daughter's school like I had five pounds fall of me.
3 pm: In Best Buy with my daughter, I worry that some people may look at me and think that I am wearing a girdle. Once that word enters my head, I know what I am really wearing.
3:30 pm: Home. Wondering why I am still wearing this thing because it is restrictive and irritating. Sticking it out for the sake of research.
4:15 pm: My tank over it is getting too baggy around the slippery panel. I do notice that this contraption makes me keep things sucked in, though.
4:45 pm: I note that I would feel incredibly self conscious if someone put their arm around my waist.
5 pm: Visions of 1950's women in girdles dance through my head.
7 pm: My friend comes over for dinner and American Idol. I was waiting for a, "Wow, do you look sleek and svelte" comment that never came. I can't take it any more. I am going mad in this tank. After the struggle of removal, which involves it stuck on my head for a brief period, I free myself. As I don a Juicy hoodie, my body feels like it has just been released from the grip of a boa constrictor.
Bottom line? Who are we kidding?! It's a girdle. I say, for special- and SHORT- occasions only.

Muffin Top Prevention
![]()
I wear tanks under garments all the time, and at Estilo Sunday I discovered the Yummie Tummie Tank (well priced at Estilo for $52). This needed invention has cotton tank panels at top and bottom, and a serious suck-it-all-in spandex panel in the center.
I have not taken it for a test drive yet but will today, and will update after!

Will we even trust these?

Shoppers say it's "useful but weird": the new DelayMirror.
The mirrors are a mix of plasma screen, camera and computer, and were unveiled by fashion chain New Look in the fitting rooms at its Birmingham, UK branch this week.
The Daily Mail reports that: "Instead of throwing back an instant reflection, the DelayMirror seizes an image, holds it, and then replays it.
It will allow women trying on clothes to do a full 360-degree twirl and then see for themselves how they look from every angle."
One customer stated what we all want to know:
"You can get any view of your bottom you want, so it gives you a whole new outlook on what looks good and what doesn't."
I'm torn on these. I could see them doing well; I could see them not taking off at all. I would love to try it, though, and I wonder if it's good or bad for business?
Even though I like the camera/playback feature, do we really need to spotlight EVERY angel? That can't possibly be good for retailers. As long as the length is right and my butt looks cute, I'm good.

Bling bling at Louis Vuitton
Pharrell Williams is the face and designer for the latest and most sparkling jewelry collection at Louis Vuitton, Blason Jewelry set to debut this spring. Pharrell was chosen by none other than Marc Jacobs to work alongside designer Camille Miceliset.
The collection is lusty; Pharrell is hot; and the candle-lit online spot totally seduced me.

Bangs are NOT for everyone

Two very cute girls, Kate Hudson and Rachel Bilson, fully apt and capable of pulling off very forward and highly styled looks--are not doing a very good job of sporting the bangs.
It's not easy, I know this. I mean Kate Moss can barely pull them off. I guess this is just further evidence against bangs.
The bangs aren't the problem. It's that they are way too long.
Exhibit A, Heidi Klum:
Exhibit B, Nicole Richie:
Is it inspired by Rachel Zoe (below, Exhibit C)?
Is it so they can wear them back more easily when a bangless look is desired? How did this become a trend? It really might be better like this than if they were a bit shorter. Maybe it looks a little dirtier, a little less perfect, and that's the appeal. All I know is, it's distracting to me! Just a little trim? Quarter inch?
Exactly! I wish I could just line all of them up and take a snip at each.
P.S. It must suck to look exactly like your arch enemy, like in the case of Nicole Richie and Rachel Zoe. It's like the same person (down to the bangs in this case). One of them needs a new hairstyle or something....

Lindsay Lohan does Marilyn

Lindsay Lohan pays a tribute to the late Marilyn Monroe by taking it off for the cameras. The spread is for New York Magazine and reconstructs the photo shoot by Bert Stern just six weeks before Marilyn's death.
They both share a vulnerable quality, but Lohan seems more sad than sexy.
I like a tribute. In fact, I love them. But you said it. Lohan looks raggedy and old and ...that hair! Plus, I'm annoyed. Why did this need to be done? Can you say attention?
If you're going to attempt, then do it right at least. Toss back a couple of barbituates with some wine first!

This is actually believable

Iceberg's Spring 2008 campaign is speaking to me.
This is a far better sell than the bebe ads (where she's dressed in vinyl and holding a leather whip) causing that reflex where your whole body shakes no. And the Keds ads too, wouldn't Dakota Fanning be a more likely spokesmodel? Just a thought.
Why can't this girl get a high-end campaign? Maybe she needs a new agent? Just sayin.
But addressing the question at hand: I do like this pretty well, and it sticks with this tough-girl look that's hot right now. Ursa would be all over these threads.

Nude shoes=longer legs
Jen Garner in Brian Reyes rocks.
Shoe tip: Add some length and keep the shade neutral. Think nude, champagne, or soft pink heels to give the illusion of Cameron Diaz straws.
It's also a fresh approach to black dress/black shoes or black dress/red shoes.
Ah, you nailed this one! I always wondered why I like that nude-shoe look. Thanks for clearing it up for me.
I have regretted - for probably five years now - not buying a perfect nude pair of Manolos at Barney's. Lesson!
Oh, and let me not forget. This dress? Better without the strap. (Seriously. Cover with finger and judge.)

Don't discount the Menswear
After poking through Neiman's with a super-stylish friend the other day, we ended up at men's sunglasses.
Recommended: checking there when shopping for accessories and shades! This goes for any men's section: i.e., I almost always buy something for myself at Service Menswear on Congress.
Hollister Hovey found those classic Gucci boots, above, half off in the men's section.
As for fragrances, my friend swears by the man-scents of Hanae Mori, Issey Miyake, and Jil Sander.
There something tough and sexy about sporting men's!

I guess good fashion reviews do not equal a good movie

For the U.S. premier of P.S. I love You she did black; for the Euro premier, off-white. Both are fabulous and even though the black is on-the-cusp of too much, I say YES.
Too bad the movie reviews are not so fabulous:
"The best description I can give to my experience watching P.S. I Love You is being stuck in an elevator for two hours with the most mundane of music being piped incessantly into my surroundings and an unnerving feeling that the walls are encroaching on me."
-The Dossing Times
I do love that black number for some strange reason. The tissue-paper explosion down the front probably hides a tummy nicely.

Am I Carmen or am I cheeesy?
Dear Amy,
I was shopping at TJ Maxx last night to find some last-minute Christmas gifts, and I found a huge Michael Kors canvas monogrammed bag with leather detail (similar to the one below) that made me question the way I feel about logo bags.

Normally, I'm not one for wearing my logos loud. However, I find that I really like the taupe canvas shades combined with a worn-in brown leather. The size is good too; it's big enough to double as a school, purse and gym bag (think 14" x 14").
I suddenly envision Carmen Kass jet-setting across the globe and remember that she always carries a large MK monogrammed bag... And at this moment, I see myself doing the same, and my large leather bag doesn't feel so glamorous.
So the question is: Can I wear it this bag to school, work, whatever, and keep it cool? Or am I jet-setting into Cheeseville?
(Originally priced $378)
Dear Carmen in Cheeseville,
I most certainly understand getting swept up by an advertising campaign. I am still stung by a conviction that I would look pin-thin and scrumptious in St. John after Angelina Jolie did a number on me.
These ads are ridiculous. No self-respecting jet-setter flits about in Michael Kors. And just look at that plane behind her! What is that, a Piper?
I would say that if you are flying in a propeller-type plane, then this Kors-wear would be an acceptable logo. But otherwise, a jet-set-logo-rule-of-thumb would be to eschew items from or that might end up at TJ Maxx.
Sincerely,
Recovering Knitwear Dreamer
Got it. No purchase made.

Why not?
I like this. And I think most guys will agree that sometimes it doesn't get hotter than a denim mini-skirt, especially when worn by a supermodel.
I also love the sharp-edged vest; nice compliment.
No. No, no, no! Why not? Let's see... because it looks trashy? Because the ripped shorty skirt thing is so tired that it fell asleep five years ago?
I know, I know.... I guess I missed the old bat!
However. I do like seeing someone wear something- whatever it is- with confidence.

And I need one.
Can we pose like that too?

A much better camel

Alicia Keys, take note.
Here's the only camel you should be rocking right now: A camel coat, dressy or casual.
YES. I dig....Camel is working well for shoes too.
What about Suri?! She needs one too.

From me to me
I've come up with my dream gift: The Stella McCartney Cable Knit Wool/Cashmere Sweater-Coat. Sure, it's expensive but if you calculate cost/wear the numbers suddenly look better, plus this style will stay stunning for years.
A beautiful sweater is the way to go when it comes to gifts. Think cable-knit, organic cotton or cashmere. FYI, Anthropologie and Barney's Co-op have a wide assortment of sweaters starting at just 100 bucks.
I am QUEEN of per-wear-average. You can rationalize buying so many things that way!
(Stella McCartney sweater on sale at Intermix online for $899.00)

Exposed Leggings

Miss Moss is still giving your fave piece a workout, Car. And it works with a lot.
However, wearing leggings without something long on top is mighty questionable. My old rule? If a model can't pull it off....
Excellent rule, but in this case, I object. I say as long as the top falls around hip level, you're safe. Add hooker boots and you're golden.
Plus, unexposed leggings (aka leggings under a dress) are quickly becoming an endangered species in my books.
Yep! I quit on that like a year ago.
So we disagree here on the first issue. I think leggings like this on too skinny - or too big - or at all! - just looks foul. She looks ok here, but I vote a no all around.
I mean, really. Wouldn't you feel so conspicuous in this?
Not if I were Kate Moss. Or Carla Ferguson.

Same jacket different look
Kate Moss and the tuxedo jacket continue to make a splash in both casual and evening wear. Pair it up with your oldest jeans or glam it up; this look continues to be my favorite fall trend.

Something different at the holiday party

Be the most stylish at the party: tote along this limited-edition Piper-Heidsieck Rosé Sauvage by Viktor & Rolf.
"The quirky packaging inverts the proportions of traditional Champagne bottles in a manner not unlike the designers' upside-down Milan boutique (not to mention their Spring 2006 show, where the catwalk was on the ceiling)." (From Style.com.)
Click above to see the super-cute site.
(Find it at Grand Tastings in Dallas, $90.)

TopShop Christmas Collection

TopShop is a gorgeous and wearable representation Kate Moss's iconic style. And for all Kate's admirers, I have good news...
TopShop is releasing a Christmas Collection this fall. Although the line has not yet arrived in The States, you can get some insight here. No doubt this will be a great line for ladies planning on making stylish cameos this holiday season.
The line was at Barney's Co-op, though. Hopefully this collection will be too!
